How many days of Medical Certificate will I receive?
We issue 7 days as a standard after wisdom tooth surgery.
Can I remove my wisdom tooth at the same day as my consultation?
We would recommend removing your wisdom teeth on a separate visit as the nurses need adequate time to prepare the room for you. The exception is if you already have an existing x-ray that we can refer to and set up your room in-advance.
Can I get all my wisdom teeth removed together?
Yes, it is possible to remove all your wisdom teeth together. However, in some cases, for recovery and ease of eating food after the surgery, we may recommend on removing one side at a time rather than all at the same time. Another exception is if you have any medical conditions, we may remove one side first to check your healing.
What are the risks to removing my wisdom teeth?
As with most activities in life, everything carries a risk, from crossing the road to taking a flight. For lower wisdom teeth, there is a 0.5% risk of some temporary numbness, altered or tingling sensation to the lower lip, chin, chin, cheek or tongue area. The reason is because a sensory nerve usually runs quite close to wisdom teeth. The recovery usually takes 6 months if this is the case. There have been reports of permanent numbness to these regions but the risks are very low. If you are a high risk case, your dentist may recommend a partial removal of your wisdom tooth.
Do you do general anesthetic or sedation where I’m unconscious?
No, we do not because general anaesthetic carries risks and 1 in 100,000 patients do not wake up from general anaesthesia. We believe it is unnecessary to take this risk for removing a wisdom tooth unless you are very nervous. We do work with sedation centers and can refer you if it is your preference. There are additional charges for sedation services.
Do I have to remove the stitches?
Yes, although they are advanced self dissolving stitches, we would recommend removal at 7 days so food doesn’t get trapped. It doesn’t hurt to have stitches removed and only takes a few seconds to remove.
What can I expect after removing my wisdom teeth?
Pain, bleeding and swelling is normal. We will prescribe you medications to help you manage these symptoms. However, if you feel that the symptoms are not getting better, we recommend you to contact us.
Can I go back to work?
We would recommend you to rest as a minimum on the day of surgery. Upper wisdom teeth surgeries heal faster in general so you may be able to return to work sooner. Lower wisdom teeth require a minimum of 3 days for initial healing. If your work require a lot of movement, we recommend to take time off to rest to prevent bleeding to restart.
What food can I eat after my wisdom teeth are removed?
We recommend a soft diet and liquid foods for the first 5-7 days.
