Post-operative care instructions after tooth or wisdom tooth removal
Here’s everything you need to know to feel better and heal well after your procedure. 😊
1. Medications
Before taking medication, make sure to have a little food to prevent an upset stomach.
- Amoxicillin/Antibiotic:
Please finish the full course as prescribed. Don’t skip any doses! - Arcoxia (Strong Painkiller):
Take one tablet a day if you’re in pain. Skip this on the day of your surgery. - Paracetamol (Mild Painkiller):
Take two tablets whenever needed for mild pain. - Chlorhexidine Mouthwash:
Gently rinse with 5–10ml in the morning and at night after brushing your teeth.
2. Managing Bleeding
- After surgery, bite down firmly on the gauze we gave you for at least one hour.
Try not to:
- Touch or play with the stitches.
- Rinse or spit—it can dislodge the clot and cause more bleeding.
If bleeding doesn’t stop:
- Use the extra gauze we provided and bite down firmly for another hour.
3. Things to Avoid
For the next week, skip:
- Smoking
- Alcohol
- Seafood
- Cardio or intense exercise
Stick to soft, easy-to-eat foods like:
- Soup
- Yogurt
- Mashed potatoes
4. Swelling Tips
- It’s normal to have some swelling—it will likely peak on Day 3 and then start to improve.
Here’s how you can manage it:
- Use cold packs for the first two days.
- From Day 3 onwards, switch to a warm pack to ease the swelling.
5. Follow-Up
- We’ll see you in a week to remove your stitches.
- Until then, rest up and take it easy—you deserve it!
