Care instructions after fitting braces
Congratulations on Starting Your Braces Journey! 🎉
Here are some tips to keep your teeth, gums, and braces in tip-top shape. 😊
1. Brushing and Flossing
- Brush at least twice a day, especially after meals.
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or an orthodontic brush to clean around your braces.
- Don’t forget to clean the wires and brackets carefully!
- Floss every day using a floss threader or interdental brushes to reach those tricky spots.
2. Eating with Braces
Some foods can damage your braces, so it’s best to avoid them. Stick to braces-friendly foods like:
- Pasta
- Rice
- Yogurt
- Soft fruits
Avoid these:
- Hard foods (e.g., nuts, hard candy, raw carrots)
- Sticky foods (e.g., gum, caramel)
- Crunchy snacks (e.g., popcorn, chips)
- Biting into whole foods like apples—cut them into small pieces instead!
3. Dealing with Discomfort
It’s normal to feel some soreness or pressure, especially after adjustments. Here’s what you can do:
- Use orthodontic wax if brackets or wires irritate your cheeks or lips.
- Take over-the-counter pain relief like Paracetamol if needed.
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to soothe any discomfort.
4. Emergencies
If you notice:
- A loose bracket or wire
- A wire poking your cheek
- Or anything else feels off

- Use wax to cover sharp edges.
- Tuck the wire back with a clean pencil eraser.
5. Regular Check-Ups

- These visits are key to getting the best results!
Quick Tips for Success:
- Stay hydrated—it helps keep your mouth fresh and healthy.
